RAM Heritage Day 2020

We are celebrated Heritage Day on 24 Sept 2020 in Montagu surrounds with traditional Cape Malay Curry, Koeksisters and lots of love.

We fed so many people we lost count. When we took a photo of a few of the pots they were already half empty. In mix of things we forgot to take a photo of the 100's of most lovely Malay Koeksisters. I give it a capital K as it's part of our heritage celebrations today. Grateful for this day and all the loads of people who helped Dulcie Lawrence at Sakhikamva ECD at Mandela Square in Montagu. The Malay Chicken curry was so tasty and delicious.

For the children we chose a milder curry made with boneless chicken portions. All received so well.

We had beautiful traditional dancers as well as the most gorgeous singers.

Thank you Dulcie and team for a lovely day.

Dad's Day 2020

We thank each and everyone who contributed towards making dads feel special in this covid time of this tourist & wine making town's closure of businesses for many months where no one could work to support their families. Some of them are single dads doing a moms job.

We thought...we never spoil the destitute dads and knowing how they feel about not being able to provide for their families.... what if we gave or made them a meal, handed them a cooldrink and perhaps a small choc or similar with the mug. Just strictly for them. Just for once to let then know we care.

We entertained them with some treats and eats plus a food hamper and spoils to take home to their families.

It was so lovely we had a good time and met super dads from all walks which included sommeliers, chefs, tourist artists & tradesman.

We would have loved to spoil more dads.

A lovely day was had by all.

We were blessed with 30 Hungry Lion meals.
Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages is spoiling the family parcel with a 2lt Coke each as well as Coke to serve with lunch.

COVID-19 Response 2020

This year has been a gruelling heartbreaking year for many, with the COVID-19 pandemic bringing lockdowns and closing down businesses. For a town largely dependent on tourism and wine sales, it has been especially devastating for the small rural towns of Montagu and Ashton and surrounds that we mostly service. This year saw backbreaking soup kitchens and food parcel handouts, weekly and even bi-weekly drives from Cape Town to Montagu and back, our trusty bus (called Sibusiso) making many trips filled to the brim with food and goods.

We took hands with other NGOs in Montagu and Cape Town to keep our feeding schemes working non stop during the heart of the pandemic when food security was at its lowest. Due to many loosing their jobs the situation remains dire.

We thank our many sponsors and donators that stepped up and supplied for this higher need, and also to the many new supporters that helped us, we have no words to adequately thank you!

Snapshot: 3 July 2020

The crowds just kept coming, we fortunately had loads of soup cooked by Daily Dietitian Claremont
Donations of oranges from 1000 Women 1 Voice plus meals distributed from Rise Against Hunger Africa

To one of our trusty soup kitchens, Spasina who cooks in our absence ensuring not only that the poorest are fed, but also that they get a church service form her small home on Sundays. She runs services all day to accommodate as many as possible. Thank you Spasina for your ongoing love & care serving the poorest when you also have nothing.

Our ECD Sakhikamva ECD in Mandela Square in Montagu receiving goods for the soup kitchen. Principal Dulcie cooks up a storm for the area and in our absence ensures all the children and elders get something to eat daily or as we can. She covers a vast area. We also love cooking and serving meals from this ECD.

We are shared some Rise Against Hunger Africa meals for the days we are not serving. Many elders and children benefit from these lovely meals.

Folks it was cold, really cold. The hot nutritional foods are important to embrace the body against illnesses. We can only do this with your help. Please continue your support to enable us to do more than just a cup of soup. What goes into our meals are the most important.

Thanks once again to all the helping hands standing together as one. Together we are making a difference.

Thank you JD Stemmet Vervoer and wonderful staff for always coming up trumps for us. They transported too much to count over this last year often at the last minute notice. Their dedication is above and beyond.

We are truly inspired and humbled by everyone who have come together in these covid - 19 times. From transport for dry & refrigerated ... to funding... to donated dry ingredients...to support in Montagu & Ashton....to accommodation.... to every single angle who assists to help us help those in need. Even our accountants are just amazing & phenomenal in times where we are shorthand. Everybody pulling together.

Thanks to a generous donation by John & Helen Cross our UK angels for the funds to fix our bus for now. True stalwarts. We don't know how RAM would have made it through this gruelling year without you.

Thank you to each person who is contributing in one way or another - Together we making a difference.

Montagu Wedding fairytale & home handover

A fairytale day to remember forever. Superproud.

A tragic event is turning into a joyous celebration. When a young man’s house burnt to the ground on the 6th June 2020, his wedding plans seemed impossible. We decided to play cupid... On Thursday 25 June we were part of this fairytale wedding at 16h00 and then after, the hand over of their new Wendy home that has been generously donated by angels, so many helping hands to make this possible. A home handover & a wedding, a first for RAM - Rescue Among Many!

So many thank yous, and more to be added as we run around with limited internet, please know we will add every name that assisted...

See how these 3 NGO's came together to make this day special for this couple who had nothing. A collaboration with Change Agents South Africa & Angels Haven Foundation to give them a new life together without a further struggle. Something for them to build onto. Our Price and his Princess.

Ellen Pakkies Women's Day 2019

Montagu is also plagued by social ills like gender based violence, bullying and drug abuse, like many other parts of our country. To try and change mindsets and create a dialogue around these issues, RAM in association with 1000 Women 1 Voice decided to make a day of it, and screen the movie based on Ellen Pakkies' life story, combined with a talk by Ellen Pakkies herself to bring awareness and to open the conversation about these issues. There were discreet counselling services on site and other spoils to make the day a success.

We are so thankful to our glorious God for blessing this event. Seldom ever seen in Montagu, as the movie started to play, Olin told me to look and see the amazing rainbow gracing the sky outside. What a start to what we know was a huge success of an event. Given that we had started later than planned, God's timing is always right - divine intervention.

Thank you 1000 Women 1 Voice, Tina Thiart, Ellen Pakkies, and Caroline Peters - what a team we were.

Assisted by an amazing team with Mareletta Van Zyl Mundey, the staff of Montagu-Ashton Tourism Association, and Olin Kiewietz & Dorisca M. Kiewietz .

A blessing filled day it was with so many sponsors to make this day possible.

Thank you for the venue, the Ophelia Hall, and Langerberg Municipality without the space, this event would not have been possible.

To cater for our guests, we supplied 500 cold meat sandwiches, dozens of muffins, and 4 humongous pots of soup, as well as  the Shoprite food truck that was made accessible to us - thank you.

Many tears were seen, many truths were told, and many lives affected.

The RAM team and Ellen Pakkies were graciously hosted again by the Montagu Country Hotel, such a huge spoil for us.

God is good.

Thank you to Deon Smit for collecting and delivering the soup.

Drought Relief Project - Oudtshoorn 2019

Drought Relief Donors

A fellow non-profit organisation, South African Water Warriors, initiated and distributed the donations received from our fellow South Africans to the drought stricken area of our country.

The much-needed water, fodder, and groceries was delivered to a drought-stricken farming community in Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo. The area is one which has been particularly affected by the drought in the region and where we have been assisting with emergency drought relief packages.

We would like to thank our donors; Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages, Oakland Dairies, Imagine Cruising SA, Imagine Holidays, Signage Installation & Services, and Montagu Foods for their assistance and donations towards a great cause.

Thank you to Pieter du Plessis and Turnberry Boutique Hotel for arranging and providing accommodation. We had a much needed wonderful nights rest.

Thank you to Deon Smit and South African Water Warriors for your unselfish deeds to alleviate some of the sufferings of the drought-stricken Oudtshoorn.

We are forever thankful to Mans Vervoer Kraaifontein for your support, thank you to the amazing driver who maneuvered this huge truck to deliver the goods.

Convoy Arrival

A pleasant feeling of excitement, our expectations of something joyful and solemn was aroused among us as the convoy arrived. Look at how much was collected, and there is still more.

The Donations

We are more than happy to have received in-kind donations from across the country.

To be blessed

It is through the amazing support we received from our fellow South Africans that this drought relief project was possible. The blessings showered over Oudtshoorn, with many angels restoring hope, love, and life to our animals, farmers, and workers.
